A Brief History /
Una Breve Historia
The Batey 35 School located deep in the heart of the sugar cane fields of the Dominican Republic, provides a quality 5th through 7th grade education to students from over 12 Bateys.
The school was founded in 1998 by the late Rev. Jean Luc Phanord, pastor of the Maranatha Baptist Church of La Romana and a Haitian missionary to the DR.
He recognized the need to educate the Haitian children of the sugar cane fields and felt that education was the key for the cane workers and their children in order to break the cycle of poverty and to improve their quality of life.
This school offers transportation and one meal a day to students who have no access to a government school.
The Batey 35 School continues in this tradition of its founder and offers a free Christian education to its students.

La Escuela Batey 35, ubicada en el corazón de los campos de caña de azúcar de la República Dominicana, ofrece una educación de calidad de quinto a septimo grado a estudiantes de más de 12 Bateys.
La escuela fue fundada en 1998 por el difunto reverendo Jean Luc Phanord, pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Maranatha de La Romana y misionero haitiano en la República Dominicana.
Reconoció la necesidad de educar a los niños haitianos de los campos de caña de azúcar y sintió que la educación era la clave para los trabajadores de la caña y sus hijos para romper el ciclo de la pobreza y mejorar su calidad de vida.
Esta escuela ofrece transporte y una comida al día a los estudiantes que no tienen acceso a una escuela gubernamental.
La Escuela Batey 35 continúa en esta tradición de su fundador y ofrece una educación cristiana gratuita a sus estudiantes.
